2 lbs chopped meat (take out aprox 1/4 lb)
1 1/2 cups wheat, fine
1 onion
1 tbsp salt
1 tsp allspice
water
pinenuts

Rinse wheat* in water. Drain water from wheat by cupping hands and squeesing out moisture.
In small frying pan. Fry aprox. 1/4 pound chopped meat and a portion of the onion chopped. Add small amt of salt, pepper, and allspice. Add pinenuts.
In large bowl, mix wheat(drained) and spices. Add chopped meat and remainder of onion ground. Add water if too firm. Divide in 1/2.
In baking dish spread 1/2 meat/wheat mixture. Layer frying pan mixture. Top with remaining meat/wheat mixture adding a small amount at a time to reduce the risk of disturbing the bottom two layers.
Cut into diamond shapes. Top with small amounts of margarine.
Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Broil for 10 minutes.

*NOTE: When making Syrian food that requires uncooked rice or cracked wheat, first soak the rice/wheat in cool water... this rinses it a little and also starts to soften it. The rice can then be drained and the wheat is squeezed until very little water remains.
